Tintin finally gets his day in American cinema

The latest comic-book hero to get his own big-budget Hollywood film doesn’t fly, spin webs or deploy a set of retractable mutant claws.

His name is Tintin. To look at him, you might think, “Huh?” He’s a 15-year-old reporter with red hair and button eyes who looks more like Orphan Annie than Indiana Jones or James Bond.

But don’t underestimate this Belgian boy wonder. Since he first bound onto the comics pages in Brussels in 1929, he and his dog Snowy have traveled to the farthest corners of the globe, thwarting gangsters, smugglers, drug runners and dictators.
