Vikram Gokhale Control of Bollywood ‘big budget’ films needed 2011

Panaji: Stressing the need for controlling spending on mega-budget films, veteran actor Vikram Gokhale,

uesday said he had been discussing the issue with Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and his deputy Ajit Pawar and there could soon be a committee to look into the matter.

Gokhale, a renowned stage actor known for his select roles in Bollywood films like ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, also said that big budgets were squeezing out producers with integrity and commitment.

“There is a need to control expenses of films being made.

I have been discussing this with both the chief minister and the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra and both seem to be understanding…

There could be a committee (to study the issue) and I might be a part of it,” Gokhale told reporters during an interaction at the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

“There are films with Rs.50 crore budgets and the stars get Rs.

10 crore or Rs.15 crore. What happens to the honest producer who wants to make serious films? He stands no chance,” Gokhale said.

“The Iron Lady,” which opens in L.A. on Dec. 30. It is the fifth time the New York circle has honored Streep. The last time was two years ago for “Julie & Julia.”

Brad Pitt took home best actor honors for his performances as Oakland A’s manager Billy Beane in “Moneyball” and as a stern father in Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life.”

It is his first honor from the critics’ group. Steve Zallian and Aaron Sorkin won for best screenplay for “Moneyball.”

This year’s golden girl, Jessica Chastain, was named best supporting actress for her roles in “The Tree of LIfe,” “The Help” and “Take Shelter.“ Albert Brooks won best supporting actor for a rare dramatic turn in the film noir “Drive.”

Latest Tsonga outguns Berdych to book final spot 2011

LONDON: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga earned himself a place in the ATP World Tour finals by beating Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5 at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday.

Tsonga will face Swiss master Roger Federer in Sunday’s showpiece.

Tsonga got his first break of serve to go 4-2 up in the first set, with the Frenchman creating his break points with some clever groundstrokes to the baseline. Group A winner Berdych gave it plenty of fight but was out-hit by his opponent.

Tsonga then held serve to love and took the set 6-3 on his next service game, creating three set points with some fierce serving and clinching it when Berdych hit long.

The second set went with serve until the seventh game, when Group B runner-up Tsonga earned two break points. He won the game when Berdych double-faulted.

Next game, Berdych got himself a couple of break points with a drop shot that Tsonga sent wide, and the Czech seventh seed won the next point when Tsonga hit the net to make it 4-4.

Tsonga broke when Berdych hit the net to go 6-5 up in the second set.

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – Was Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries a big sham? Opinions are divided on this raging topic of national debate, but Humphries himself appears to think so.

TMZ reports that, although Kardashian has already filed for divorce from Humphries, the basketball jock has filed for an annulment, claiming that the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star defrauded him into marrying her.

Individuals connected to the athlete tell the site that Humphries was unaware that he was allegedly being played for a pawn and hoped that their union would be a lasting relationship of eternal love, but Kardashian wasn’t interested.

In the annulment filing, Humphries asks that Kardashian be ordered to pay his attorney’s fees. The suit also mentions “community and quasi-community assets.”

Makes sense — what’s a quasi-marriage without a quasi-community?

For what it’s worth, friends of Kardashian tell TMZ that she wanted the marriage to last — but hey, 72 days is a long time. People change.

Kardashian also reportedly wanted to file for an annulment rather than divorce initially, but was advised that the couple had no legal grounds for annulment — which, under California law, include impotency, incest, bigamy, unsound mind, force or fraud.

Since Kardashian filed for divorce in late October, many have speculated that the wedding was merely a ploy for money and/or publicity.

Kardashian has gone on the offensive over such claims on occasion — earlier this month, the reality queen filed suit against her one-time employee, Jonathan Jaxson, for claiming on a local Los Angeles news show that the marriage was staged.

Meanwhile, we still have nine months to speculate as to whether Kardashian’s sister Kourtney will actually give birth to a child, or merely produce a Cabbage Patch Doll marinated in Fake Bake in order to score a few magazine covers.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — John Krasinski, Helen Hunt, Michael Cera, Amanda Seyfried, Danny Glover and rap star Common are among the stars with movies heading to the Sundance Film Festival.

Films announced Wednesday that will compete for prizes at next month’s independent-film showcase include “Nobody Walks,” with “The Office” co-star Krasinski and Olivia Thirlby; “The End of Love,” starring Cera, Seyfried, Shannyn Sossamon and writer-director Mark Webber; “Luv,” featuring Glover and Common; and “The Surrogate,” with Hunt, John Hawkes and William H. Macy.

They’re among 16 films in Sundance’s competition for U.S. dramas, whose past winners include “Winter’s Bone,” ”Precious” and “Frozen River.”

Sundance also announced 16 films competing in each of three other categories: U.S. documentaries, world dramas and world documentaries.

The festival runs Jan. 19-29 in Park City, Utah.

Willie, 69, and Crissy, 53, were chosen for the task after they failed to identify the two traitors in the camp – Dougie Poynter and Antony Cotton – who have been on a secret mission to disrupt everyone’s lives.

After incorrectly choosing Fatima Whitbread and Emily Scott, they were marched off to a “dungeon” and told to spend the night there.

Horrified Crissy shrieked: “No way, I’m not going in there, it’s pitch black dark. I’m claustrophobic – snakes, rats, cockroaches. I can’t do it.”

However she eventually relented and faced her fears to join Willie, who had already wandered in.

And she soon moaned: “My nerves won’t stand it in here with half of Noah’s Ark crawling all over me – but I’m not going without you, we’re in this together.”

Earlier the pair also had to take the bushtucker trial, winning five out of seven meals as they identified an array of creatures just by touch.

They used either their hands or their mouths in a bid to spot an ostrich, a possum and an octopus among others.
