Amitabh Bachchan Torchbearer of London Olympics
The world is waking up to Bollywood and how! Amitabh Bachchandisclosed on Twitter that he has been invited by London Olympic Organising Committee to be the torch bearer in the last leg of this relay on Thursday.The living legend of Bollywood carried the torch in Southwark, London. Earlier today Bachchan tweeted that he would hold the torch from Southwark, London at 10:30 am. He feels proud for his country and himself too. Bachchan will join the likes of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon during this last leg of torch bearing relay. Steel giant Lakshmi Mittal and his son Aditya too were part of the rally.
It was a 3.2 mile long relay which saw many eminent personalities from various walks of life bearing the torch. This is not the first time that the Olympic association showed its inclination towards Bollywood. Previously, in 2004 at Athena Games, the Euphoria singer Palash Sen, actress Bipasha Basu, Rani Muherjee and Vivek Oberoi carried the torch. In 2008 Beijing Olympics, Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan were also the torchbearers, while Akshay Kumar did the honours for Winter Olympics event in 2010.
