Rekha celebrate special birthday

Rekha celebrate special birthday : Her inspiring performances

Rekha celebrate special birthday : Her inspiring performances

There is no doubt that Rekha is feminine grace and sensuality personified. But her Bollywood career goes beyond that. She tried to step out of that image and play some memorable characters in notable films

Rekha-birthday-specialThere are some female actors whose beauty overshadows their acting prowess. Rekha is a prime example of this. She made her Bollywood debut at a very young age and, after struggling to make a mark during her initial years, she underwent a major physical transformation. After that she shot into the limelight as one of the sexiest actors of her time. But Rekha dabbled in some serious acting too, and even did several roles in parallel cinema, in Ijazat and Ghar in the 80s. Her characters have been re-played by many female stars of this generation, but could they match up to the way the original diva did it? You tell us…
Rekha in Umrao Jaan- Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Umrao Jaan
Rekha’s adaayein and her sensuous mujra performances are remembered even today. Rekha won a National Award for her portrayal of a courtesan in this movie. When Aishwarya decided to step into her shoes for the remake of the film, there was talk about whether Ash would manage to pull it off or beat Rekha’s unforgettable act. We must say that though Ash is a beautiful dancer, she just couldn’t recreate the same magic. Blame the director if you like, but truth is that this film didn’t leave a mark.
Rekha in Muqqadar Ka Sikander- Madhuri in Devdas
Rekha portrayed a courtesan yet again in this movie. This time, she falls for Amitabh Bachchan who is in love with Rakhee, who is in love with someone else; a pained Amitabh turns to Rekha for solace. Muqqaddar Ka Sikander was, in that sense, the Devdas of the 80s. Rekha’s character had an uncanny resemblance to that of Chandramukhi in Devdas. In 2000,Devdas was remade and Madhuri played the role of Chandramukhi. She managed to bring out the same sensuality, grace and beauty that Rekha did in the 80s hit.
Rekha in Khoobsurat-Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met
While Kareena won several accolades for her energetic and talkative character in Jab We Met, Rekha had portrayed a similar character in the 80s. She won a Filmfare Award for her role of an upbeat and naughty girl. Kareena too won a Filmfare Award as best actress for her role inJab We Met.
Rekha in Silsila-Rani Mukherjee in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Rekha played the love interest of much-married Amitabh Bachchan in this 1981 movie. Rekha’s character is married to Sanjeev Kumar, but she has an extra-marital affair with Big B in this one. It was quite a bold character to play for a mainstream heroine at the time. When Karan Johar made a film on the same subject in 2004, he chose Rani Mukerji to play the role of a married woman in love with another man. Rani’s act was much talked about, but could not match up to Rekha’s in Silsila.
Rekha in Biwi Ho To Aisi- Madhuri in Beta
Rekha plays the bahu of the house who is married to a dutiful son played by Farooq Shaikh. Rekha decides to fight her tyrannical mother-in-law in her own style with the support of her henpecked father-in-law. Madhuri’s character in Beta is quite similar to Rekha’s. She too decides to change the dynamics of the house by getting back at her mother-in-law in a cunning manner. Her father-in-law and servants aid her in that. Both Rekha and Madhuri got a lot of praise from the critics and the audiences for playing the strong woman.

Amitabh Bachchan celebrate his 69th  birthday

The actor says it’s a learning experience to get opinions from people through his blog and micro-blogging site

Amitabh-Bachchan_IndianSuperstar, megastar, star of the millennium – Amitabh Bachchan has been given many epithets in his four-decade long career in Bollywood. And the actor, who turns 69 Tuesday, is now trying to harness the online medium to reach out to his fans who’ve bestowed these epithets on him. Whether it’s Twitter, his blog or his voice blog, Amitabh is on a mission to connect with as many people as possible. After starting his blog in 2008, the Big B went on to start his voice blog called Bol Bachchan in 2010. He later joined micro-blogging site Twitter. Amitabh says connecting with his fans has helped him learn a lot. “I think social sites like the blog and Twitter are absolutely fabulous because they give you a chance to put your thoughts down and immediately get a response,” Amitabh said in an interview. “So in case you’re going wrong, you have the time to correct yourself, and in case you are right, you get an endorsement that you’re doing something correct. Most of the times, the opinions we get from people are brilliant…It’s learning (experience) for me.”
An avid blogger, Amitabh has regularly been sharing his personal and professional experiences with what he calls his “extended family”. Be it information about his ailments or the soon-to-be-a-granddad status, he keeps everyone up-to-date with the latest in his life. “When those that connect with me on the mobile or on the hot seat and express their happiness of merely getting the opportunity to talk to me or to be in the same environ, it embarrasses me. But somewhere I feel happy at the justification,” Amitabh wrote on his blog. “For it is not something that brings me the joy of justification. It is the justification of the joy that I see in the eyes of the other. That for me is the moment of glory, if ever it could be called that,” he added.
Amitabh started his Bollywood career in 1969 with Khwaja Ahmad Abbas’ Saat Hindustani, but it was 1973 film Zanjeer that actually kick-started his film journey. Amitabh’s stint on game show Kaun Banega Crorepati has brought him closer to the people of real India. The latest season of the show sees a lot of contestants from the disadvantaged groups, for whom meeting their screen idol is a dream come true. The actor leaves no stone unturned to make his contestants feel special on the show. He happily obliges their demands and fulfills their wishes in whichever way he can.
Amitabh admits he is inspired by the way these contestants delightfully make things work despite adverse circumstances. “To learn of their struggles and their pains in making ends meet, to experience the efforts that they make despite adverse circumstances to reach out to those dependent on them, to touch upon subjects that we would in our normal existence overlook is not just enlightening but one that is filled with a huge amount of guilt. Guilt at not being able to do something for them,” said Amitabh.
